A “L’Instant Taittinger” poster. This image depicts a tapered conical champagne flute over the image of a woman in a black strapless evening gown with full length black gloves against a gold tone background. The image is unframed.
Taittinger is a French wine family who are famous producers of Champagne. The estate is headed by Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger (born 1953), a member of the consultative committee of the Banque de France. Its diversified holdings included Champagne Taittinger, Société du Louvre and Concorde Hotels, whose flagship is the famed Hotel de Crillon on the Place de la Concorde in Paris, France as well as the Loire Valley wine producing firm of Bouvet-Ladubay, and a partnership in Domaine Carneros in California, until it was sold to Starwood Capital in 2005.
The L’Instant Taittinger Poster often gets mistaken for being an older poster than it actually is. Printed in 1989, Taittinger advertisers were aiming for a 1940’s glamour Hollywood feel when they designed an initial mock-up of a beautiful model with long black gloves, mermaid-cut gown, and dark sunglasses, standing behind a bubbling flute of champagne. After studying their initial design, the team deemed the piece ‘too modern.’ Editing out the sunglasses, they added the piercing and recognizable eyes of Grace Kelly, a decision that proved to be a success as this modern poster now stands as one of the classics.
This piece is an authentic vintage poster from an original run. Acrylic UV Plexiglass is recommended for framing in order to preserve the artwork.
